franck DENAENE -
I've owned this magnificent guitar for three years. A luthier's guitar enthusiast (I own two others, one French and one Japanese), this Lucky is pure Custom Shop. I play it both at home and in concert on a superb F-Type amp from KelT Amplification.
On the plus side: top-notch construction and finish, easy to play, super-pleasant through neck, insane sustain, 0 fret, single splittable pickups, magnificent flamed maple, and lots more, including self-locking tuners, accessible but out-of-sight trussrod under its practical magnetic cover, and last but not least, all the fittings are top quality, as are the wood making up the body, neck and fingerboard.
In terms of sound, the 100% maple body gives a snap to every attack of the pick on the strings, but all you have to do is adjust the amp settings and/or the volume and tone pots to get a softer, more "delta blues" sound. Dynamics are excellent, especially as the original settings, whether for pickup height or string action, instantly produce the ideal sound. These pickups don't "chatter" like some other humbuckers. I'd call them more modern than a PAF from the '50s or their current reproduction. If you don't like them, simply ask for another set of pickups when you order.
As you can see, this is the guitar for you if hollow-bodies are your guitar of choice. And, best of all, the Lucky is made in France, which, among other things, enables our craftsmen to make a living from their passion and keep costs down for a top-quality guitar.
To conclude, another important point is the direct contact with Tom and his team. Listening, warm and available, this last point is for me essential. So, if this guitar appeals to you, let yourself be seduced, you won't regret it.
I'd also like to make it clear that I'm in no way seduced by Marceau Guitare. I'm simply seduced by this Lucky.
Musically.
